The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) issued a statement on 7th May 2009 relating to the potential risks to public health due to the presence of nicotine in wild mushrooms.
Having found that 99% of all wild mushrooms tested exceeded the MRL of 0.01mg/kg, EFSA have proposed a MRL of 0.036mg/kg before they can be considered safe for consumers.
As part of the continuing commitment to method development, an analytical procedure for nicotine testing in wild mushrooms is now available at Eclipse Scientific Group, Chatteris.
Fast Track turnarounds are available and rates for services are negotiable based on numbers of samples and the service required.
