There have been several recent changes to the recommended methods for the microbiological examination of drinking water samples.
The primary reference document on methods for the microbiological examination of drinking water samples in England and Wales is now The Microbiology of Drinking Water 2002 (Environment Agency) published in March 2002.
New water quality standards will also apply from 25 December 2003, as detailed in The Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations 2000, SI 2000 No.3184 (Stationery Office Ltd).
The Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) expects water companies, and their analytical contractors, to follow the recommendations and advice in The Microbiology of Drinking Water 2002, from early 2003.
At our specialist water testing laboratories in Kent, all of our routine water microbiology methods are fully compliant with the new reference document and are UKAS (DWTS) accredited.
