As befits a business with a long standing
relationship to a water company, Eclipse Scientific
is involved in many aspects of water testing,
including, at the ultra clean end, the testing of Purified
Water for the pharmaceutical industry.
Such water is destined for use in the
manufacture of proprietary medicines, or as a process
intermediate. Its chief attribute is that minerals have
been removed, normally by ion exchange treatment; the
water is usually sterilised to prevent biofilm formation.
Purified water processes must be regularly
monitored for compliance with stringent chemical and microbiological
standards.
An even purer grade of water - for injections
- is made by distillation and the distillate is sealed
in containers that are then heat sterilised.
These waters are routinely tested
for the presence of endotoxins (fever-causing by-products
from dead bacterial cells).
