Legionnaires' disease is a potentially life-threatening pneumonia caused by inhaling airborne Legionella pneumophila bacterium and other related bacteria.

In the UK, health and safety law states that, with regard to your premises, you have to take the necessary precautions to ensure that staff or members of the public are not at risk from infection by Legionella sp. - the bacteria that causes Legionnaires' disease.

The recent tragic outbreak of Legionnaires' disease at Barrow-in-Furness highlights the very real risks that may be hidden in your buildings.

Comprehensive risk management, good water hygiene and maintenance practices including regular monitoring are essential tools in in the control of Legionella.

Failure to comply with current regulations may result in serious illness and death and may also lead to criminal prosecution for you personally and/or your organisation.

At Eclipse Scientific we offer a UKAS accredited test for the detection and enumeration of Legionella spp. with biochemical confirmation for Legionella pneumophila.

If your test results are positive, we can also provide further advice and assistance - including chlorination information - to help you eliminate the legionella contamination.

Use a sterile bottle, minimum size 200mls, available from Eclipse Scientific.

Store samples in the dark at ambient temperature.

Deliver samples to our laboratory within 2 days of sampling.
We will provide results within 10-12 days from receipt.
Presumptive positive test results will be reported to you as soon as available.
Results can be sent by e-mail, first class post and fax.
Please supply full company and contact details along with your sample.
